Sealing A pillars

In the middle of replacing windshield. When reinstalling the stainless trim over the A pillars, is it necessary to use sealant? Mine came off filled with white caulking that looks entirely ineffective and made removal of the trim difficult. If they should be sealed, what product is best and at what locations under the trim? The windshield and its rubber gasket will be sealed, but that is another issue.

Also, who is the best vendor for purchase of new trim on bottom of windshield? Many thanks for the advice.

I wouldn’t use any sealer under the A Pillar trim …it’s really not needed there.

That’s what I’ve been thinking, as the shop manual says nothing about sealing under the trim on the A pillars. It seems that the rubber gasket sealed inside the door frame along the A Pillar trim should work to keep water out of the car. If I’m mistaken, would someone please clarify.
