sandymck Posted October 2, 2023 Report Posted October 2, 2023 I just bought a 63 r1/auto that's been sitting for 20 years or so. It's only got 19000 miles, and ran fine when parked. I'd like to find someone who knows these cars to get it started and go through it, although it looks like it was run yesterday. I know the brakes aren't working, but I imagine that could be a fluid issue. Any recommendations for knowledgeable mechanics within say a 100-mile radius of Lee?
RoyG Posted October 3, 2023 Report Posted October 3, 2023 Bob Munter at WCD Garage in Northboro is super, and specializes in Avantis as well as all other Studebakers. He owns several personally. The problem is there is a long wait time to get in the shop.
mfg Posted October 3, 2023 Report Posted October 3, 2023 (edited) Munter is a good recommendation! PS.... sounds like a really nice Avanti...Best of luck with it! Edited October 3, 2023 by mfg added text
RoyG Posted October 3, 2023 Report Posted October 3, 2023 Yes, Bob is a good guy, and very knowledgeable. He rebuilt my rear axle assembly to T/T with 4.09 gears and new rear brakes and treated me fair. He is building my engine to R-3 specs (with reworked heads rather than actual R-3s), and has been helping with used parts and quidenace.
sandymck Posted October 5, 2023 Author Report Posted October 5, 2023 thanks guys! he's pretty far from me, about 80 miles. but i'll give him a call. i wonder if hagerty would tow it out there (i'm a member of the drivers club).
RoyG Posted October 20, 2023 Report Posted October 20, 2023 Bob might trailer it for you, he has a couple trailers.
