atomicscott
I have a '64 Avanti R2 with a Hurst shifter. I would like to convert it back to the original Borg-Warner 4-speed shifter. I already have the console plate, trim ring and shifter boot. Does anyone know where I could source the rest of the original shifter parts? Gunslinger
Why would you want to? The Hurst is a superior shifter...especially compared to the original. What some have done is take the original shift handle and weld it up to the Hurst linkage to keep the better stuff with an original look. I get wanting to make it original but that would be going backwards as far as performance goes. Getting an original shifter and welding it to the Hurst guts would be a better way to go. Try some of the standard Studebaker and Avanti vendors such as Myer's Studebaker, Nostalgic Motors and Dave T-Bow for such parts.
PackardV8
I've got a complete setup for a Hawk. We'll have to research how different it is from the Avanti. jack vines
Guest Larry Delazzer
Take a look at Corvette Central (there are several other vendors) and their reproduction shifters for C-1 Corvettes, there may be something there you can use. Larry
64studeavanti
I agree with the sentiment that the Hurst shifter is the way to go. However, if you want, I have spare original shifter. PM me for details.
atomicscott
As a follow up to my original post...I found a shop to weld the OEM shifter to the Hurst linkages underneath, then they were able to use all of the visible OEM part so now it looks original, but has the Hurst shifter. I am really happy with it.
