mfg Posted November 29, 2014 Report Posted November 29, 2014 In the summer of 1962, the Granatellis set 29 speed records at Bonneville with a Studebaker Avanti...and it took them only 24 hours!....True?
Gunslinger Posted November 29, 2014 Report Posted November 29, 2014 It took them twelve hours. That must have been a pretty fantastic place to be part of.

mfg Posted December 3, 2014 Author Report Posted December 3, 2014 Is there any place that lists the specific speed records that were set? Thanks...Mike Yes, give me a little time, and I'll get you that info.
mfg Posted December 3, 2014 Author Report Posted December 3, 2014 From a Studebaker ad...here's six of them (Avanti)... 1km 168.24 mph, 1 mile 168.15 mph, 5kms 167.86, 5 miles 167.82, 10kms 167.40, 10 miles 163.90. Top speed for an R3 powered Avanti...178.50 mph.
garyc Posted December 6, 2014 Report Posted December 6, 2014 Studebaker provided advertising banners to dealers at the time showing the records. The only thing missing from the date included on it is the year it took place. Repro's have been available available through SI.
Guest dapy Posted December 7, 2014 Report Posted December 7, 2014 Time for another speed record. Drivers prepare your cars. Pick the track and let's meet. R1 vs R2. AOAI sponsors. Ship Happens.
