To continue with this question....Can anyone name this first celebrity to purchase an Avanti ll from Nate Altman?

Wasn't Ian Fleming a very early purchaser?

Wasn't Ian Fleming a very early purchaser?

He sure was!...But he wasn't the 'first' celebrity to purchase an Avanti ll!

Major celebrity? It could have been either Rick Nelson or Dick Van Dyke. Rick's was the earlier serial number by several hundred numbers...Van Dyke bought his in December, 1962 which is still pretty early but whether he purchased his earlier than Rick is unknown to me.

An Avanti II purchased in 1962 must be the rarest of all Avanti's ;) All yucks aside, Weren't Fleming's, Van Dyke's et al Studebaker ones, not II's?

You're absolutely correct! I forgot the original question was about Avanti II's and Nate Altman. Major brain-fart!

Raymond Loewy purchased an Avanti II from Nate Altman. DeForest Kelly owned one but purchased his used. Julius Erving owned one but I believe his was mid-1970's vintage. The first celebrity I'm aware of that purchased a II was Fremont Ellis who was an American impressionist painter but I wouldn't refer to him as a "major celebrity". Barbara Walters owned one but I don't know what year.

OK how about a couple hints?.....I'd say most everyone in the U.S. probably heard of this FELLOW... he was a big name in his chosen professional sport..BASEBALL!

Sandy Koufax. I thought he owned a Studebaker Avanti.

CORRECT!...Mr. Koufax bought an early Avanti ll.
