mfg Posted August 13, 2014 Report Posted August 13, 2014 When Robert Morrison stated that "If Altman and Newman were game, he was too" what was he referring to?
Gunslinger Posted August 14, 2014 Report Posted August 14, 2014 Building the Avanti II. It was a win-win for Morrison. MFG had something like 150 Avanti bodies left over after Studebaker cancelled the contract when they discontinued the car. With the formation of Avanti Motors it gave him the chance to sell otherwise dead merchandise taking up a great deal of space and representing a financial loss as well as the opportunity to build and sell even more Avanti bodies if the venture succeeded.
plwindish Posted August 14, 2014 Report Posted August 14, 2014 It was a win-win situation for MFG. Speaking of MFG, are they still doing the Corvette or did that go GM in-house at some point in time?
Gunslinger Posted August 14, 2014 Report Posted August 14, 2014 Composites and carbon fiber are used in Corvette bodies now but I don't know if the bodies are supplied by a vendor or if they're done by GM in-house. Whether MFG is even involved in Corvette production anymore I don't know.
Guest dapy Posted August 14, 2014 Report Posted August 14, 2014 A fine point...Newman Altman (note which name came first) was the lead Studebaker dealer in South Bend and was thereby closely tied to the factory fortunes. Obviously when SB production ended in 1963 they needed something else to do. We bought two cars from them in the 1950s.
mfg Posted August 14, 2014 Author Report Posted August 14, 2014 Correct guys!.....He'd continue to build Avanti (ll) bodies at MFG Co.
