Wouldn't the solid bolt create a noticeable vibration inside your Avanti at times?

I understand the logic of what you're suggesting. But, I can tell you that using this thru-bolt motor mount on the driver's side has created ABSOLUTELY NO FEELING of engine vibration inside my Avanti. I'm pretty sensitive to this kind of thing, and would not have kept this motor mount installed, if it had produced such a result. Also, it's hard to imagine John Myer marketing (for many years) a modified motor mount like this, if it transmitted engine vibration to the interior.

I can only add that I've had this thru-bolt, left motor mount on my Avanti for over 15 years with no issues of any kind that I can discern.  I'm not here to convince anybody of anything....just passing along my first-hand experience. Obviously, each guy will do what he feels is best. John

  2. To clarify my earlier posting: The driver's side motor mount (with the thru-bolt) I'm using was purchased from Jon Meyer. At the time, I had the understanding  he modified and drilled the stock (no thru-bolt) #60 motor mount to accommodate the use of the bolt. It really is a good idea, that addresses the stock mount separation issue quite well. John

  3. I'm also using the ONE modified motor mount from Jon Myers  (drilled for the through-bolt). My memory is this modified front engine mount is installed on the driver's side. The through-bolt keeps the motor mount rubber from separating under repeated and/or extreme torque or wind-up, when revving the engine. The passenger's side front motor mount is the stock #60 item, with no through-bolt, since it isn't subjected to the "tearing" force from engine torque. John

  4. Hi, Joe. I just sent you something called a "public message" here on the forum. Don't know what that means, since it's not the usual forum "private message" I'm used to. Anyway, I need your zip code to figure the shipping on the two "The Avanti Magazine" issues. You should be able to send me a private message through the forum (but maybe I can't message you back). Perhaps you should also include your phone number, since I don't like to put specific, personal information in forum posts. Thanks. John in Wisconsin

  5. I have a number of earlier issues of the AOAI club magazine for sale. I'm showing these issues of "The Avanti Magazine" by number grouping. However, they are being sold individually. So, you'll only need to purchase the specific issue(s) you're interested in.

The price is $4.00 per issue, plus the actual cost of shipping.  Here's what I have available:

    --#29 through #37

    --#102 through #109

    --#125 through #171

    --#173  and #175

    Thanks for looking. John

  7. I have a very good condition, 1962 INDY 500 Program Book for sale. It includes the usually-missing, separate four-page Starting Position folder, with Lap Score Sheet, Lap Prize Donors Honor Roll, and Scoring Chart by Car Numbers (the starting position panel of this separate folder has a few handwritten notations on it). This is the Indy 500 race that most folks agree was supposed to be paced by the new Avanti. But, for whatever reason, (some people say a rear window blowout at speed would have been embarrassing), the Avanti was relegated to display-only status at the race. Of course, a 1962 Lark Daytona convertible did the pace car duties.

This 1962 Indy 500 official program book from May 30, 1962 is good-sized, with 104 pages. It features a beautiful, full-color Avanti ad in the centerfold, along with a pitch from Sherwood Egbert. The book is filled with photos, many classic full-page automotive and gas/oil ads, race historical information, and driver profiles. This 55-year-old book is in overall, very good condition. There is some minor yellowing around the edge of the front cover, as seen in the photo below. NOTE: Please DISREGARD any lighting glare seen in the photos of the cover, the Avanti ad, and any other pages. These areas are all fine.

The price for this original program book, plus the bonus four-page starting position folder, is just $15, plus $5 for protected, flat shipping. Please PM me here on the forum, if you're interested in purchasing this. Thanks for looking. John

  8. This collection totals 146 issues of "The Avanti Magazine", plus six issues of the early AOAI supplemental "Avantopics" newsletter. It appears that we're missing issue #16, and the 1980-84 issues of the magazine. Otherwise the collection of "The Avanti Magazine" looks complete for the period shown.

I know these magazines may be available on CD from the AOAI club, but for many guys, there's nothing like grabbing a magazine in their hands, and going over it.

    The Avanti Magazine issues include:

    -1969, #15
    -1970, #17, plus Avantopics newsletter #5
    -1971, #18, #19
    -1972, #20, plus Avantopics #1, #3, #4
    -1973, #21 and #22, plus Avantopics #1, #2
    -1974 through 1979, issues #23 to #45 (complete)
    -1985 through 2014, issues #53 to #168 (complete)

Most of these magazines are in "as new" condition. Again, there are 146 issues of "The Avanti Magazine", plus six issues of the early AOAI supplemental "Avantopics" newsletter. The price is $450 for everything, which comes to about $3 an issue. Pick-up in central Wisconsin, or I will be happy to pack and ship to you for the actual cost.

If you live in the Midwestern states served by SPEE-DEE Delivery Service, this entire collection can be shipped for $30 or less. I can provide the exact shipping cost, regardless of your U.S. location, if you message me your zip code.

Please message me here on the site with any questions. Thanks for looking. John

  10. Hi. R-M was a high quality paint line that was definitely available to body shops and consumers. In the 1970's and 1980's, I could go into one of our local auto parts supply stores (also an R-M paint dealer) and buy any R-M paint product I wanted. So, they supplied OEM, the body shop trade, and the consumer market. I shouldn't be writing in the past tense, however. R-M as a paint brand is about 95 years old, and is still marketed by BASF. They bought R-M some time ago.

Old R-M paint chip sheets still show up on eBay every once in awhile. I also see the big R-M paint chip books at swap meets every once in awhile. If you found an R-M one for1963 or 1964 Stude, perhaps the shade of Avanti Turquoise shown would bring an answer your question. Good luck. John

  11. Thanks for taking the time to respond, dapy. So, I understand correctly.....let's say there have been 100 threads started under "Avantis for Sale" during the past year. Are you indicating there is no way for me to see any prior thread, other than the most recent one? I appreciate your help. Best, John

  12. Here's a super gift item (or maybe just keep it for yourself) for any Studebaker nut. This is the limited edition, Red Wing Stoneware mug that was given to participants of the 2001 Studebaker International Meet. It is wonderful quality....and colorful, heavy and BIG....measuring 6" high by 4" in diameter. I guarantee that this mug has never been used (I'm the original "owner"). It is in perfect condition, with no blemishes or chips....and nobody else's lips! The original Red Wing authenticity folder is also included.

The price is just $18, plus shipping. I welcome your personal check, a money order or PayPal payment Please post here on the forum, and I will email you good photos.

ALSO FOR SALE: 1983 and 1988 commemorative coffee mugs from the club national meets in South Bend. Again, never used, and just $10 each. Let me know, if you would like to see photos. Thanks. John

  13. Hi, Gang. I'm back on the forum after an absence of nine or more months. I noted the forum's classified section, which seems great. However, I'm only able to see the most recent post, when I visit that section. I can tell there are a lot more topics posted. So, how do I get the full classified section to show in let's say "Avantis for Sale"? Thanks for any help. John

  14. I first tightly wind a number of layers of plastic electrical around the antenna base nut. This protects the chrome. Next, I take an adjustable wrench, and close it as tightly as I can on the nut flats. Then, I turn the wrench counter-clockwise to remove the nut. Be careful not to break through the layers of electrical tape as you loosen the nut. This isn't any big deal! Good luck on your project. John in Wisconsin

  15. I have a very good condition copy of the January/February issue of Special Interest Autos for sale. It has a 10-page article on the 1963 Avanti. It includes a drive report, historical background, and a full page chart of the running production changes made during 1962 and 1963. Lots of photos included, too.

PM me to receive photos by email.

The price for the complete magazine is $10, plus $5 boxed shipping. Thanks. John
