  1. This is a complete, original R1/R2 oil pan set-up. It includes the genuine R1/R2 oil pan, crankcase vent tube and attachment bracket, and the separate, additional oil baffle that bolts on a rearward main bearing cap.

This R1/R2 oil pan has a few dents here and there, but is in overall good condition. It was painted gloss black by a prior owner years ago. Sold in "as-is" condition, since I've never had the occasion to install this oil pan on one of my engines.

The price for all items shown and described is $425, plus shipping. Thanks for taking a look. John

NOTE: I'll also be posting a different R1/ R2 oil pan-only for sale. It’s a genuine R1/R2 pan, but without a vent tube, or the separate rear main baffle included.

  3. Let's reduce the price of these two original Avanti shocks significantly...to $40 for the pair. I'd like to get them into the hands of someone who could use them. This is a pair of used 1963-64 AVANTI adjustable rear shocks. They are the style of rears that fit original Avanti's after serial #1225. Stude part # 1558550.

This pair of original shocks was removed from an 18,000 mile, Wisconsin Avanti many years ago, as part of a "freshening up". In good indoor storage ever since. No leaks, but some rust, as shown. Also, some rubber bushing surface cracks. Being sold "as-is".

The price for the pair WAS $70, plus shipping. LET'S CUT THEM TO $40 for the pair, plus the shipping. Thanks for looking again. John

  5. This looks to be a complete 1975 AVANTI II package of the printed information items and manuals that would come from the factory in the car's glove box. I believe it's hard to find one this complete these days. Everything is in reasonably good condition. Note that a prior owner has made some notes in ink on the front of the Avanti Service Centers guide. Here's what's included in this package:

-Vinyl Plastic Holder for all of the printed items. Has nice blue Avanti logo imprint

-1975 Avanti II Owner's Guide. 22 pages of info.

-1975 Avanti II Maintenance Schedule. Includes recommended fluids & lubricants info. 18 pages

-Avanti Service Centers Directory. 6 pages

-1975 Avanti II Emission Control Systems warranty info and Recommendations for Required Maintenance Service Replacement Parts info sheets.

-Avanti II Consumer Information folder, giving the info filed by the factory with the Federal Highway Commission. Acceleration and Passing Ability, Vehicle Stopping Distance, and Tire Reserve Load. I've never seen this folder before.

    -Tire Rotation Diagram Sheet.

-Warning Sheet about push starting car, and catalytic converter safety.

The price for the entire package listed above is $125, plus $8 for careful packing and shipping. Thanks for looking.

  6. Hi, Gang. What are the appropriate wheel lugs to use with these reproduction Halibrand wheels? Also, am I correct in assuming these latest repro wheels will take tubeless tires (no inner tube needed)? John

  7. I have a genuine R1 oil pan for sale. This is a spare I've had on the shelf "forever". I thought I'd get it out into circulation! It looks like this R1 oil pan had some "body work" done on the bottom years ago. There are some dents here and there. All of the original R1 oil baffles are in place. Sold "as-is", since I've never mounted or used it.

The price is $500, plus the shipping. Thanks for looking. John

  8. Hi, Paul. Very good of you to check in with the positive comment. You have a good memory!

I also didn't think I had any more of these nifty Avanti posters available. However, we're getting ready to move after being in our home for 40 years. And, these two remaining posters surfaced from the inner sanctum of my Avanti goodies chamber. Surprise, surprise!  Best regards, John

  9. I have one set of these 1963 and 1964 Avanti posters available. They are from the newspaper automotive feature, "Great Cars I Remember" by artist, Jack Ashcraft,. Publication dates were in 1976. These posters each measure 11" wide by 17" high. They would look good matted side-by-side, and housed in one frame.

Note: The black items holding each poster are magnets, not tape. No poster was harmed in the making of this ad! Also, I placed the "NOT ON POSTER" Post-It notes on each piece of artwork to make copying these online images harder. If requested, I will be happy to email the buyer some photos without the Post-It notes, once payment is made.

These two posters are in overall good condition. There are a few marks here and there around the outer borders from storage all these years. However, they will be covered when the posters are matted for display. The price for this set of two posters is $50, plus the cost of shipping in a protective tube. Again, I only have one set available. Thanks for looking. John

  10. I purchased a quantity of this original black vinyl material from Avanti Motors in South Bend about 40 years ago. I bought it for some front seat repair work on 1972 Avanti ll I owned at the time. The graining matched the upholstery in my Avanti perfectly. I later owned a 1963 Avanti with black upholstery, and low and behold, this vinyl  also matched that remarkably well.

I'm selling what I have left from my original purchase of years ago.  This piece measures 39" wide by 55" long. It is in good condition, except for a little white dot blemish (fortunately located near one edge). I've shown that dot in one of the photos. Sorry it was so hard to show the graining pattern in the photos.

The price is $50, plus the shipping. Thanks for looking. John

  11. PRICE REDUCTION, GANG! I was just looking at this mounting bracket, and thought a guy will have to spend some time removing the old crossmember piece from this bracket. So, I'm going to reduce the price to allow for that. The price is now cut from $22 to just $15 (plus the shipping).

This is the center mounting bracket for the AVANTI rear crossmember. Create your own rear crossmember by having the pipe portion bent at the local muffler shop, and then welding this bracket in place on the pipe.

Rusty, as seen in the photos, but very usable after a quick sand or bead blasting. The price is $22, ...NEW PRICE is just $15, plus the shipping. Thanks for looking.

  12. Hi, saddletramp. I don't look at this Avanti site every day, and therefore don't immediately see posts. I sent you a PM yesterday indicating I had sold the manual, and then posted that same information here.  In my PM, I also indicated to you that the photo quality of today's reproduction Avanti shop manual and parts book was much better than what you have experienced in the early repro. About my Avanti parts book,  the hopeful Avanti guy in the Czech Republic also bought that. I really think you'll be happy with the quality of the current reproduction Avanti books, if you're simply looking for good information and decent photos. Good luck on this! John

  13. From studequest above: "I am a fixer.  I like the original equipment working." Yes, yes, yes, studequest. I'm also a fixer. Over the years, I found that if I don't fix the little issues as they arise, my collector car eventually becomes a rundown piece of crap (at least in my eyes). All a matter of personal preference, of course. John

  14. Body color....on my very original '63 White Avanti. Logic should also tell us that the factory wouldn't take the time or the materials to mask off the engine bay area, and paint it in black, compared to simply shooting it in body color, as part of the overall exterior paint job. John

check the manual as you will need to pull the grease zerk to remove it from the car.

I had this same "manual" discussion with Mr. Boone in a PM a week or so ago. At that time, Dan hadn't gotten the purchase of an Avanti shop manual to the top of his priority list yet. I'm afraid it's a generational thing. Too easy and too quick to simply post online for assistance, rather than read about Avanti mechanical components in the actual shop manual (gaining some education, and perhaps the ability to solve a problem for oneself). No specific poke at Dan Boone intended.

I think many of us have learned that if we don't have the basic knowledge or skill to troubleshoot a problem for ourselves, we simply have to seek out a shop that can fix the problem. YES, it's hard to find an experienced, interested service garage to work on our Avanti automobiles. But, that's simply another problem that needs to be solved by the car owner. Perhaps Dan isn't a member of the AOAI, and just uses this free forum. However, if he is an AOAI member, he can look in the membership roster, and contact other Avanti owners in his area to ask about shops they use and trust. John
