False. It is on the #4 cap.

#3 The exhaust manifold. The air injected into the exhaust supply's oxygen so unburned fuel can be burned in the exhaust.

The bracket on the engine.

Avanti and Jet Thrust engines have 16 lobes. Other Studebaker V-8 engines have 17– one for the fuel pump on early V-8 engines. If you count the lobe that is bolted to the front of the cam it would be 17 and 18 on engines 1955 and after.

i consider myself to be a mid level caso so the $254.20 to have a set shipped to Washington was painful. As the old saying goes “no pain no gain” Looking forward to warmer weather on the left coast.

Hello Nelson & A0136....Is that a regular steering knuckle?
The pictures I posted are stock Avanti suspension.

That’s funny. I’m the same way. When my mind is running on the right course I can’t sleep. In looking at the photos I’m wondering if you couldn’t turn the lower support upside down and use the right on the left etc?
If they are turned over part of the support circled in blue that the king pin mounts to would be upside down. If it was cut on the yellow line and the king pin mount turned over the support would look more like the R3 piece.
Wouldn’t it be nice to find a box of those in a parts stash. -
The support for the pin and bushings is vey different. That would lower the front.
Thanks again Nelson. -

Thanks Nelson
That does look different. I am headed to my shop now to take a look. It’s 15 degrees and the shop is 2 blocks away but I won’t be able to go to sleep if I don’t go look.

Any chance of seeing some pictures of the lowered upper control arm inner mount and the drop spindles.
I have looked at the stock spindle and kingpin a few times with the thought of lowering the front end without changing the other suspension geometry. Not many R3 Avanti’s to look at out here on west side of the country. 🤔 -
Were the drop spindles a new part or a modified existing spindle?

I don't know...I would think the elimination of the hood inner construction cross brace occurred at the same time the hood prop was re- located, and the left inner fender skirt modified to accomodate a group 24 size battery..At the first official Studebaker 'square light' Avanti....R4892.
This was my thought- opinion also.

The parts manual shows a hood change after serial number 4892.

The AOAI annual Convention is September 17-20 in Detroit.

The terminal posts are on the other side (right). They are reversed from the BCI 51.

The NAPA parts network shows 99+ 3EE battery’s available across the US.
Most are at distribution centers so a local store may have to order it in.

Avanti 800278. May be the same as the Cardone number. I believe it’s a ford MC

Yes True.

1529 is the casting number for that part. It is the same R1 an R2.
The Carter part number is stamped into the edge off the mounting flange.
3509S for an R1
3508S for an R2 There may or may not be an M before the number.
The difference between the two is the R2 housing (1529) is drilled and tapped for a fitting for the blower pressure reference line.
Pictures below are an R2 pump 3508

There is a space. It looks like a 1/16” or so—1.5 to 2mm. I haven’t noticed any rattling, clicking or knocking.
If needed an anti rattle clip from a more modern disc brake might be modified to fit under the retainer.
