Oh, that solves the mystery of the missing flare fitting. I have two problems with plugging it. One, it will throw the alignment of the front caliper lines off, its hard enough to attach them in the bone stock positions, but, two, if I plug up the other two openings, and attach a brake line to the third opening and blow into it, air comes out of the opening without a fitting no matter if I have a plug or another line attached to it.
Thank you for your input, I think I need the correct junction block, anyone have one?
A final thought, I found an adapter on Universal Hose and Fittings that screws in and has a flare fitting. I wonder if this would work? Yeah, but the correct junction block is what I need.

Does anyone know if each hole in the front brake junction box had a "nozzle"? If you look at the pictures, you can see an example of one hole with the nozzle, the other hole is empty. The empty hole lines up with the master cylinder line. I had it mounted, incorrectly, the hole with no nozzle attached to the front left caliper, it leaked. Also, I had a block off plug directly under the master cylinder line( I converted to a dual master) and, it leaked. Does anyone have an explanation? Anyone have a good extra junction box? It must not be chewed up along the threads, I think this one is good there, and have all parts, if that nozzle is indeed missing. I paid $12 for this one from a vender.

( I have the shop manual ) Do I need Brake Piston Return Lever Tool # J-21172 to install the friction pads? What else could I use to retract the pistons?
-
Park. That is exactly what I need. I had no octagonal junction box at all, trying to install a stock braking system.

( I have the shop manual ) I cant seem to find a picture of exactly where the front brake junction box is mounted. Can someone provide a picture? There must be a screw hole there?

Thank you Dwight. I will get a check for $69 in the mail tomorrow morning.

I have another forum member who has a booster. Shall I just buy his?
-
Great, would you put my Customer Number on it...849426?
-
I 'll buy it, $50 plus shipping, as agreed. Could you ship it to Studebaker International, that is where its going anyway, I need it as a core for a rebuilt one. I have your address, just let me know how much for shipping, I'll send a check.

Jerry, trying to send you a message in messages. Did you get it?

Found that the ground wire attaches to the bases of the voltage regulator and relay, then to ground.
-
Oh,sorry, and what terminal does the yellow with black stripe go to? Ignition? Or Battery?
-
Does the white ground wire attach to the bases of the voltage regulator and the window relay? It looks like it goes to the B terminal of the voltage regulator...which would be hot.
-
Nice! Thank you!!

I don't know why, but, the color of the wire doesn't always match the color in the shop manual wiring diagram. Good suggestion, though. Both wires from the alternator to the voltage regulator match, plus I get continuity. The wire #22 to the Ignition terminal is unknown, but I think if I get continuity between that wire and the one near the center of the engine compartment that goes on the distributor, I have my wire because they both meet at the ignition switch. The 12 gauge that goes to the B terminal is yellow, it should be black, but there are only two 12 gauge wires her, the other white that goes to the headlight and parking lights. I have another harness from a 63, that too has both white 12 gauge wires. My only qualm is that there is another wire joined to this 12 gauge, it seems to be involved with the power window relay? I wish I had a power window wiring diagram. Nothing in shop manual.???

Some progress. The wire that seems to fit on the solenoid does get hot when I put the gear shift in Neutral. There is no engine or transmission in this car.

1963 Avanti. There seems to be two wires , one thicker 12 gauge? and one 18? gauge joined together from the bundle near the starter solenoid, they are hot when I turn the key. Does the thick one go to the B on the voltage regulator? Where does the other one go? They are joined together with a female spade connector that doesn't have a connection. Separately, an 18 gauge wire with a connector that fits right on the starter solenoid seems to go there, but it doesn't get hot when I turn the key to start. Neutral safety switch? This car has power windows. Also, there is no wire to the positive side of the solenoid? I have the one that doesn't work on the negative side.
I have the shop manual with the wiring diagram.

Uhh, I still need a core 1963 Avanti brake booster to send to Studebaker International to get a rebuilt one. I now have a 68 or 69 New Yorker brake booster, doesnt fit, and a Bendix 6945 which Ive installed with a fabricated mount which I am not happy with, I dont have the lines installed and that is holding up my engine installation. Does anyone have a core for sale???
-
That kinda looks like the Bendix 6945 that is the source of all my problems. It was on the car running and driving. The next owner disassembled it and sold it to me. When I went to put it on the pushrod jams up against the firewall so tight that I didnt want to do that. There is a picture of it on Johnstones site, Avanti number 4788. You can see that the booster is attached with the bolts just catching the threaded studs.

Hi, Still looking for an original rebuildable 1963 Avanti brake booster.

Those are considerations. I just learned of the message center through you, and, Dwigt from the forum has a core. He messaged me Dec 11, I'm just getting back to him, awaiting his reply.

Wanted 1963 Avanti Front Brake Junction Block in Good Condition
in Avanti Parts

Hi! I am looking for the 6 sided brass front brake junction box for a 63 Avanti. It will have 4 ports, each with a flare fitting. Not chipped or stripped, it is disappointing to mount one and have it leak. Thanks.
