I was wondering the same thing
-
The bearings have all fallen out of my seat slider frame on my 87 convertible. I purchased a new universal frame to have my floor mounts welded on to. However the new frame is too thin to safely weld anything on to it. So I'm back to square one with a broken driver's seat. Can anyone tell me where to get a good used frame or tell where the originals were sourced from so I can proceed in that direction? My car will remained parked until I can fix this headache! Thanks all.

I was leaning towards trying Weldwood. Thanks for the tips all!

I tried 3M trim and adhesive and my insulator fell off as soon as the underhood temperatures rose. Then I tried Gorilla glue spray adhesive and again first hot day and after driving for an hour the insulator fell off again. I need something that will hold the insulator in place in these extreme temperatures.

Thank-you Bob, no hurry. BTW, My 87 has no pressure switch anywhere. I've followed all the freon hoses and there is no switch anywhere in the system.

I believe I once saw that the master was from a Ford, but I cannot remember the year and model.

I downloaded the wiring diagram for the 87 Avanti. It covers everything except the HVAC system. Since the system was Chrysler and not Monte Carlo I need to see how it was wired. My AC clutch is not engaging all of a sudden. The clutch works it you jump it. There is no pressure switch in the system as well. Then fan comes on, but not the clutch when you push the AC buttons. Does anyone have a correct diagram?

I'm trying to replace the evaporter coil in my 87. But I cannot find what Chrysler model the HVAC box was sourced from. Any ideas?

My proble is, the piece that actually holds the glass and glides back and forth horizontally (as the mechanisim moves up and down) was replaced with a homemade piece that jams and cause the vertical slides to jump the tracks. So I need a regulator that has all the original parts intact.
-
I finally settled on using a universal flex hose. A 1 1/2" by 24" worked well. It just clears the AC compressor pulley and doesn't kink or hit the hood.

My 87 has a dual track regulator for the rear window. And many have said it's from an 86-95 Chrysler Lebaron convertible. So I found one from an online used parts company after searching for almost two years. To my dissapointment, when it arrived it was not like the one in my car. It is a single track with smaller glass as well. So I Googled some images for 87-95 Chrysler LeBaron convertible quarter window regulator. All the images I have found show the single track one I received. So what the heck was used in my car? I need confirmation. Or, was the single track regulator used in other years? The pictures below show what I have on the left, and what was sent to me and apparently by all info found is from and 88 Lebaron convetible on the right. Please help!

What application is used for the upper radiator hose on an 87? A Monte Carlo SS hose does not fit. Does anyone know what was used. I can't even find a universal flex hose that reaches. This car is going up for sale real soon! I has to be the worst one they ever made!

I need to replace my radiator in my 87. Is it the same as the Monte Carlos or sourced from something else?

Thanks Jim
I looked on the Steele catalog and chatted with someone and they could not help me.

Hello again,
Does anyone know what fits the convertible top door seal? It's three pieces. I would imagine it's from a Chrysler LeBaron convertile, however I cannot locate that OEM prt anywhere.
-
Not a chance. I have been looking for 2 years with no luck.

I looked at the thermostat on a cold engine. Heck it was 28 degrees in the garage. The themostat was closed. I replaced it anyway with a new 195 degree thermostat. I ran the engine until the temp gauge moved up to about 150 and that's when the thermostat opens. Then the temp drops again, and the cycle repeats. Still just luke warm heater air. This is the exact same thing the previous thermostat did. Why is a 195 thermostat opening so early? I'm indeed baffeled.
-
It has a 195 thermostat in it. I don't know if it's stuck open though. I'll have to pull it and see.
-
My 87 heater takes a long time to heat up and never gets really hot. The temp gauge only gets up to 140. I have a 195 thermostat. The core has good flow too and I have a new water pump. I had the same 305 engine in an 89 Camaro and it got nice and toasty. Any suggestions?

No, I did not need to remove the tank. In the convertible, the tank comes out through the trunk and the filler is on top instead of the fender.
-
Problem solved! All I needed was 3" of tank filler hose which I got at Oreilly's. My filler neck was only 2" long and 2" in diameter which was the same as the tank. Apparently, the convertibles are different.

The heater valve cable on my 87 is so hard to move I keep pulling off the handle on the lever. I see the panel is 87 Chrysler and Dodge truck. But I have looked everywhere online and can't find a new cable. Has anyone else found a source? The valve itself is new and moves freely.

Awesome! I like it. I will definately go that route if I can't find the hose. Bob Ziff may have one for me. He'll let me know. Thanks all.
Question on 87 convertible trunk hinges
in 1984-91 Avanti
Posted
My 87 convertible has trunk hinges that are not the same ones used on all Avantis. They are just a non spring loaded hinge that uses lift supports to hold up the trunk lid. It is an awful design and the supports get in the way of storage in the small trunk. I suspect these are not factory and may have been replacements for whatever reason. My question is can I replace them with the proper Avanti trunk hinges that are readily available?
