mfg Posted July 25, 2017 Report Posted July 25, 2017 In October of 1963, Barbara Nieland set a total of-----?----- records at Bonneville as part of Studebaker's factory team. 1) eight............2) seventeen............3) twenty-six.......or.......4) thirty-three...........................?
r1lark Posted July 26, 2017 Report Posted July 26, 2017 (edited) The Hot Rod "Bonneville Wrap Up" article in the January '64 issue said in the writeup that Barb had twenty-eight of her own records, but one of the picture captions said twenty-six. So, of your possible answers, I'll go with #3 -- twenty-six. Sadly, this issue of Hot Rod probably didn't hit the newsstands until after Studebaker's announcement of the cessation of production in South Bend - and the fact that the Avanti be discontinued. (And what about the hi-po Larks & Hawks - were any R1 or R2 Larks or Hawks built in Hamilton in calendar year 1964?) Here's a picture of Barb and Andy looking over the engine of an R2 'Lark'.
