Luma Posted April 28, 2017 Report Posted April 28, 2017 Is the Auto trans from a RQA Avanti II the same as a Studebaker Avanti ? Tag on it reads AS2-10 but there is a stamping of 6 over the S2 area. The tag also read Studebaker-Packard. Sure looks like a Studebaker transmission.
Gunslinger Posted April 28, 2017 Report Posted April 28, 2017 It is a Borg Warner Power Shift, but the bell housing is different to fit the Chevy bolt pattern and it has a different torque converter.
Luma Posted April 28, 2017 Author Report Posted April 28, 2017 Thanks Gunslinger. Now will that RQA tranny (just the tranny) bolt right in place on a Stude Avanti? It looks like a winner to me.
Gunslinger Posted April 28, 2017 Report Posted April 28, 2017 It should bolt in place with the Stude bell housing. It will need the proper torque converter to operate correctly with the Stude engine. How differently it will perform with the torque converter mismatch I don't know. If there's any other parts differences between the RQA Power Shift and the Stude Power Shift I don't know...maybe someone else with more transmission knowledge can give that information. What you might do is give Jon Myer at Myer's Studebaker a call and ask him. He's as knowledgeable as anyone on the subject and can advise you on any potential pitfalls.
