One part of the factory painting process for Studebaker Avantis was a thorough wet sanding. Was wet sanding unique to the Avantis, (as opposed to other Stude cars), due to the fiberglass body and the use of lacquer paint?

Yes, it was unique to the Avanti because they sure didn't wet sand Larks and Hawks and trucks!  :)

The Larks/Hawks/trucks were painted with enamel.

Actually Paul, I think that they did wet sand the other lines as part of the painting process...I'm not 100% sure, but for now I'll say....Answer...No!

Ed, guess I 'assumed' something regarding your question......I shouldn't do that. Are you talking about wet sanding the primer coat before the final painting the finish coat, or wet sanding the finish coat after all paint was applied (but prior to buffing)?

I assumed you meant wet sanding the finish coat...............

My fault...I did mean wet sanding the primer...and I should have specified that!
