mfg
The Granatellis built the engine in Avanti 63R-1025 (the '63 HRM Avanti test car) to dependably turn 8,000 RPM...as they felt that kind of RPM was needed to beat the then 'Red Hot' 409 Chevys at the dragstrip!.......True? studegary
Almost as purported, except that it was to beat the Mopar hemis, not the Chevrolet 409s. Heck, my 1964 hipo 383 Fury beat 1964 Chevrolet 409s.

64Avanti
Turning 8,000 rpm on a 289 or 304 is not a good idea! The rods are not up to that load.

Agreed!, Of course at the time the Granatellis probably weren't worried if they blew an engine. (or two!)
