mtgibby
I purchased shocks for the 63 R2 yesterday. The Gabriel (Hencho en Mexico) rear shocks (model 82103) went on easy-peasy. The front shocks (model 82087) are a different story. It seems the tabs (ears? Flanges?) that bolt to the lower arm are not wide enough. I can barely get the bolt heads to cover 1/2 of the tab. I put washers on to try and improve the coverage, but it looks like poo and doesn't make me feel very safe. Any ideas?
wildfelr
RQB3263...I believe you have the wrong shocks...last year I visited Jon Myer in Duncan Falls. , Ohio and had his crew do some work on RQB3263 during which time it was brought to my attention that the wrong front shocks had been installed based on the exact description you gave...it was explained that incorrect shocks can cause other (frame) damage....I had them replaced...Jon writes the Q&A in the Avanti mag and his number is 740-674-4897...good luck
mtgibby
I talked to Jon. It looks like Gabriel has changed the design specs of these shocks, but left the model number the same. The yoke should be 3 3/4 inches across, but all the new ones on the shelf are 3 1/2 inches.
JLBKY
My solution to this was to make washers . Decide was diameter washer you need. Buy a short piece of round stock in that diameter. If you have access to a lathe, drill the center to the size bolt hole you need. Cut the round stock to the thickness you need. Don't have a lathe........cut the round stock to the thickness you need and drill the center on a drill press.
