Jaehnert Floyd Posted April 12, 2016 Report Posted April 12, 2016 A few years ago, I replaced the mufflers on my 1963 Avanti with mufflers that were sold as the same loudness as originals. They are just to loud and I want to replace them with something quieter but still have a good tone to them. Suggestions would be appreciated
Gunslinger Posted April 12, 2016 Report Posted April 12, 2016 Magnaflow...you'll like them very much. I have them on my '70 Avanti. Take measurements of the length of your mufflers and pipe diameter and look at Magnaflow's website to find the part number that will fit. Summit Racing carries them as does Jegs. Places like Pep Boys may have them as well. Magnaflows have a low burble at idle and open up at speed. Flowmasters are excellent quality as well but to my ear they're excessively loud and raspy sounding. Of course we all have different opinions. On their websites they usually have sample videos of their sound...but sound can change with different engines.
Geoff Posted April 13, 2016 Report Posted April 13, 2016 (edited) I have a handful of suggestionsSpin Tech mufflers:Sportsman Street 3000 (loud for the street), 3000XL (less loud), & 3000XLP (quieter than less loud). Those listed above are rectangular box shaped. Spin Tech also makes oval and low profile rectangular box mufflers to fit a variety of space requirements.http://www.spintechmufflers.com/ (Top left. Mufflers -> Street Mufflers)And one from DynomaxDynomax VTThe VT stands for valve technology. These use a tuned valve to nullify the resonance [drone] in low RPM driving. The valve swings out of the way when you plant the loud pedal.http://www.dynomax.com/mufflers/dynomax-vt-mufflers (One comparison video)http://www.jegs.com/p/Dynomax/Dynomax-VT-Mufflers/1316158/10002/-1 (One video same as dynomax page, plus three more videos) The valve is under a lifetime warranty. Dynomax gives a 90 day free trial offer. If you are not completely happy, send them back. Edited April 13, 2016 by GeoffC312
