jaswalters
Anyone have any thoughts on mounting a 289 ci engine on an engine stand without taking off the bell housing?
mfg
If you mean using the transmission mounting holes at the rear of the bell to attach to the stand,.....that would leverage a lot of engine weight too far forward,.....You'd probably need to make up a separate support to be bolted up at the front of the engine for this to work safely. Avanti83
As MFG says above, with the weight being further from the base, you would not only need a support but also one of the better stands that has dual wheels on both ends so the stand is less prone to tipping. Remember that moving that amount of weight further from the mount adds a lot more torque to the mounting arm. It you chose to do it, be darn careful. 64Avanti
Don't even consider it! Not only is load on the bolts increased because of moving the weight forward but you would have to use the transmission screw holes to mount to the stand. Because they are closer together than the bell housing holes you would use this will also increase the forces on the screws.
