mfg Posted 7 hours ago Report Posted 7 hours ago What is a quick visual way to determine if a stock 1984 Avanti is equipped with either a LG4 305 engine or the more powerful L69 305 engine? (without checking engine code numbers)
Gunslinger Posted 5 hours ago Report Posted 5 hours ago While this may not pertain to an Avanti…the LG4 had a single snorkel air cleaner while the L69 had a dual snorkel. The LG4 also had a 2” exhaust manifold outlet while the L69 had 2 1/4” manifold outlets. There were internal differences such as the cam and a different advance curve but you can’t see that. Getting the carburetor numbers and looking them up should help as well.

Well Gunslinger, you’re ’right on the money’ when you mentioned the rather elaborate dual snorkel L69 air cleaner assy, with its twin intake hoses leading down over the front tires to left & right grills installed in the valance panel…. a dead give away at a glance! Well done!
