Bobcat Posted January 26 Report Posted January 26 I recently had a 2004R installed in my '72 Avanti, by a reputable mechanic in my area. I supplied the kit from Nostalgic with their linkage rods. For some reason, he could not get the linkage right to pull the shifter into first or second gear. Will someone please provide pics that show the correct installation.
Gunslinger Posted January 26 Report Posted January 26 Contact Dan Booth at Nostalgic. The man believes in service after the sale.
Bobcat Posted January 26 Author Report Posted January 26 I know Dan does. But I would like actual installation photos.
Adam DeRosa Posted January 29 Report Posted January 29 I also did a 200-4R conversion on my Avanti (RQB-1831). I did not purchase the kit Nostalgic sells, instead I was able to re-use and adjust my existing linkage. I can pull the shifter into second but not first as the linkage runs out of travel. But, in the 20 years since I've done the conversion this has not been an issue. I do think I may have had to swap the linkage arm that's mounted right on the transmission from the old TH400 onto the 200-4R. Your mechanic should be able to look at things and figure out what's wrong, otherwise have him give Dan a call as others have suggested, Sorry my car is not on a lift right now so I can't get you pics.

plwindish Posted February 3 Report Posted February 3 I had the 200R4 swapped into my ‘76 RQB-2392 in 2012. I did get the tv cable, shift rods and the shifter plastic shift indicator plate from Nostalgic and gave them to the trans shop that did the work. The swap from the THM400 was pretty trouble free as both transmissions are the same length, no driveshaft adjustment was needed. My engine dropped a little over 1000 rpm’s at 70 mph from the conversion, going from 3000 to 2000 rpm’s.
Adam DeRosa Posted February 12 Report Posted February 12 @Bobcat - were you able to solve this? If not I can probably get my car jacked up and grab some pics on Friday.
Bobcat Posted February 12 Author Report Posted February 12 I have not. Would be very appreciative of pics. Thanks
Adam DeRosa Posted February 13 Report Posted February 13 @Bobcat - here's some pics of the linkage connection at the transmission. The larger rod angles up from the transmission to the steering column to lock the transmission in Park with the key removed. The smaller rod goes back to the shifter. I hope this helps. If you need something specific let me know and I'll try grab some more pics. Good luck!
Bobcat Posted February 14 Author Report Posted February 14 Thanks much Adam. I will have to do a little studying on these pics.
Bobcat Posted Monday at 02:42 AM Author Report Posted Monday at 02:42 AM (edited) Does anyone have pics that they will post here showing using the linkage available thru nostalgic ,and installed, for the 200 4r? Edited Monday at 06:22 PM by Bobcat

I am getting ready to put my th700 back in and couldn't remember the connections -yes I forgot to take pictures.....
Adam DeRosa Posted 16 hours ago Report Posted 16 hours ago @SCPO-PD You're welcome; glad I could help! Sorry the parts in the pictures are kind of grimy - I did this installation 20 yrs and many miles ago. @Bobcat I hope your mechanic can get this puzzle solved for you. You will really like this once it's done. It really transforms the car at highway speeds and is the single greatest improvement I've done over the years. To get the full benefit of this conversion, make sure you have a method of engaging the torque converter lock-up clutch. There are a few different ways to achieve this and there are aftermarket devices available to perform this function.
