Bobcat Posted January 26 Report Posted January 26 I recently had a 2004R installed in my '72 Avanti, by a reputable mechanic in my area. I supplied the kit from Nostalgic with their linkage rods. For some reason, he could not get the linkage right to pull the shifter into first or second gear. Will someone please provide pics that show the correct installation.
Gunslinger Posted January 26 Report Posted January 26 Contact Dan Booth at Nostalgic. The man believes in service after the sale.
Bobcat Posted January 26 Author Report Posted January 26 I know Dan does. But I would like actual installation photos.
Adam DeRosa Posted January 29 Report Posted January 29 I also did a 200-4R conversion on my Avanti (RQB-1831). I did not purchase the kit Nostalgic sells, instead I was able to re-use and adjust my existing linkage. I can pull the shifter into second but not first as the linkage runs out of travel. But, in the 20 years since I've done the conversion this has not been an issue. I do think I may have had to swap the linkage arm that's mounted right on the transmission from the old TH400 onto the 200-4R. Your mechanic should be able to look at things and figure out what's wrong, otherwise have him give Dan a call as others have suggested, Sorry my car is not on a lift right now so I can't get you pics.

plwindish Posted February 3 Report Posted February 3 I had the 200R4 swapped into my ‘76 RQB-2392 in 2012. I did get the tv cable, shift rods and the shifter plastic shift indicator plate from Nostalgic and gave them to the trans shop that did the work. The swap from the THM400 was pretty trouble free as both transmissions are the same length, no driveshaft adjustment was needed. My engine dropped a little over 1000 rpm’s at 70 mph from the conversion, going from 3000 to 2000 rpm’s.
Adam DeRosa Posted 17 hours ago Report Posted 17 hours ago @Bobcat - were you able to solve this? If not I can probably get my car jacked up and grab some pics on Friday.
Bobcat Posted 1 hour ago Author Report Posted 1 hour ago I have not. Would be very appreciative of pics. Thanks
