ken1007 Posted March 26 Report Posted March 26 The radio in my 89 Avanti convertible stopped working. The old radio is a decades old Alpine AM/FM CD player. Does anyone have any easy hint for removal and replacement? Is the dashboard arrangement basically the same as an 89 caprice? Any help would be appreciated as I am in a retirement area of VA and do not want to leave this car overnight in the big city even for those who profess can repair or replace the radio/CD player. PS: Years ago I took this car to an authorized GM dealer who claimed they could fix anything, they popped the hood and quickly closed it saying I would have to take it somewhere else. AG-R3 Posted March 26 Report Posted March 26 Don't know if you saw this on the SDC Forum some notes here http://studebaker-info.org/rjtechjan2023p1.html#89av
IndyJimW Posted March 28 Report Posted March 28 Radio should be in a metal carrier. Remove bezel then you use a radio tool on each side to remove radio, Good luck, Jim Wood
Lincv8 Posted Tuesday at 04:47 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 04:47 PM I also cant get radio out of my 89. I've used the removal tools, allows me to move out about 4" and then binds up an stops. Its a Sony and on top has Avanti stickers, so I'm guessing original? Will it help to remove carpeted portion that covers Heater stuff to get into back to see what its held up on? The link to SDC site was of no help. Have a new one ready to slid in if I can get old out.
