63stick Posted February 27 Report Posted February 27 Just pulled front windshield and there was no type of sealer or bedding compound. Window fell right out. Should there be something in there. Also noticed what looks like a drain hole in bottom of post. Should that be open. Post seem to be in good condition, slight surface rust, mostly glue residue.
Guy Posted February 27 Report Posted February 27 Its a double lip type seal like a VW bug windsheild it shouldnt need bedding or sealer if installed correctly.
mfg Posted February 27 Report Posted February 27 Looks to be in good shape…And I agree with Guy on the sealer.
64studeavanti Posted February 27 Report Posted February 27 The shop manual clearly states to use Sealer and bedding on the windshield and butyl tape and Sealer on the rear window.

63stick Posted February 28 Author Report Posted February 28 That's what i read in manual, but there definitely was non there. That's scary, a glass suction cup would pull the window out. It came out like nothing.

Not without first removing the left & right stainless ‘A Pillar’ trim!… However, there is nothing wrong with using a bead of sealer… just don’t overdue it.
Guy Posted February 28 Report Posted February 28 You are lucky it came out easy, mine had to be cut with a utility knife along glass edge to get the rubber out of the way to remove glass and there was not any sealant, or butyl tape, the old seal was rock hard and cracked in the corners.

Yes, Avanti windshields and backlights are easy to remove when you intend to replace the weatherstrips with new!
63stick Posted February 28 Author Report Posted February 28 Oh yes, the pillar trim. I forgot about that. I had removed them weeks ago. Also, I removed all the stainless trim on windows, which probably made it much easier. Should have looked at the manual before I did it. My rubber is all VERY pliable. Will reuse.
63stick Posted February 28 Author Report Posted February 28 I would be afraid the rear window would blow out on the highway if it didn't have that one screw in the top.
63stick Posted February 28 Author Report Posted February 28 My lower window frame corners are open, which I would think would funnel water into the body.
