Supercharged2004 Posted August 10 Report Posted August 10 Hi aardvark - I was the one asking how many supercharger variants were made can’t seem to find an answer. I have seen photos of others with the supercharger badge - but they were all yellow. But without a vin # I am unsure if they are early photos of mine . Mine had been customized with earlier Avanti front marker lights added later.
aardvark Posted August 10 Author Report Posted August 10 Hey Super. Well the problem seems to be the lack of proper documentation from the Factories and those who ran the show.... You would never see that with other Mfgr's... to me it is outright bad bookkeeping and sad. I own a Porsche and other Collectibles and there isn't anything i cannot find out about those specific vehicles and their Production stuff/ Only a few are left and in the know.. John Hull who wrote ''Avanti the complete story'' did a good job on His bBook, but it is lacking a lot of info on Our Cars. He has a LOT of documentation from Factory and Office records,... but He is getting up there in years, and i fear His Records may never hit the Avanti Public. I had a issue just trying to figure out how many Avanti's (sorry Studies) were made in my year. His book only said over a 4 year period (01-04) 53 were made...No breakdown per year..'''FinallyI '''I did hear back from John and He sent me an e-. It stated there were 14 made in 2001, and 33 made in 2002. There is NO Doc's on the Options that I know of. If You get further info on ANYTHING as You go forward, I'll go out on a limb here and give You my e-mail.... LakeDesign.Dan@mac.com .. Just state in the title who You are. We are in Western NC in the Blue Ridge /Smokies / Appalacians. Twisty Roads Abound!!
Geoff Posted October 6 Report Posted October 6 I have a classing system I've placed a little bit of time thinking about: Studebaker Avanti for model year '63 & '64 Avanti II (or AV2) for Newman & Altman AV3 for Blake AV4 for Kelly & Cafaro AVX for all which the AVX was the prototype / proof of concept The Kelly & Cafaro years could break into more divisions: AV4.1 early coupes & convertibles | AV4.2 LSC | AV4.3 sedans | AV4.4 post-sedan coupes & convertibles I suppose that means AVX could split AVX.1 for Firebird and AVX.2 for Mustang
aardvark Posted October 12 Author Report Posted October 12 Wow Geoff.. My heads going to ''A-Splode !!'' I can't speak for the AV3's and 4's as You call them...I DO LIKE THE DESIGNATORS !!!... I can tell You what their (my) door tags read like. ...It says ''Studebaker by Avanti Co.'' Now that is My '02' door tag.. The '01's' just say ''Avanti'' (no mention of "Studebaker')'. . It's like by year '02' the rights to the Studebaker name were bought or acquired. And its all ''Bass -Ackward''...I'm essentially driving a Stude by the Avanti Corp.... I own a Porsche, 928 .. but it's not called the 928 Corp, who built a Model called Porsche.... Same with a Camaro by Chev... Not a Chev by Camaro Corp. Ya see the Model designated to our car is as said... ''Bass-Ackward''. But I'll accept he AV-3 and AV-4 designators.. They just don't hold with the reality, or a name tag. ...
Geoff Posted October 13 Report Posted October 13 True. My "AV" nomenclature would more relate to car companies' internal designations [BMW: E30, E36, E46, E90. GM: A-body, F-body, Y-body. Mustang: fox body, SN-95. Audi: B4, B5, et al.] that level of breakdown. A 1995 BMW M3 is an E36 BMW M division tuned, 3 series. However, that's all at a level of breakdown not everyone has to delve into, or know. I just use the AV# coding personally. Again, it's at a level of breakdown not everyone has to delve into, whether it catches into the vernacular or not. I find it cool the 2002 Avanti door tags even have a mention of Studebaker at all.
aardvark Posted October 13 Author Report Posted October 13 Geoff. Yup, '02's and some other years also add the Studie name in the door plate. The '01's didn't. So I think I'll use Your Designators. Thanks.
