mfg Posted October 3, 2023 Report Posted October 3, 2023 The #6 car was driven by Bobby Unser in the '63 race... Bobby crashed it during second lap....It morphed into the #28 car for the '64 race, driven then by Jim Maclreath. In '63, #6 was fitted with a smaller diameter Paxton Supercharger than its twin, the Jim Hurtubise #56 car.
mfg Posted October 3, 2023 Report Posted October 3, 2023 The gal in the video, Paula Murphy, was supposedly the first woman allowed to drive an Indy race car around the track...She was told to keep her speed under 100MPH.
mfg Posted October 3, 2023 Report Posted October 3, 2023 #28 became #6 again when it was entered in a 1965 race at the bumpy Atlanta Speedway....The only time a Novi was entered in any race besides the Indy 500. ..
mfg Posted October 3, 2023 Report Posted October 3, 2023 That's driver Eddie Sachs helping Paula out of the car...Sachs was killed in a firey crash on the second lap of the '64 Indy 500
mfg Posted October 4, 2023 Report Posted October 4, 2023 Looks like they were using #6 for picture taking duties...The car Paula took out on the track was the #56 Jim Hurtubise Novi.
mfg Posted October 5, 2023 Report Posted October 5, 2023 (edited) BTW...#6 & #56 Novis were delivered to Indy on open trailers towed behind Avanti powered Studebaker 'Wagonaire' station wagons. (from the Santa Monica Paxton shop) Edited October 5, 2023 by mfg added text
