Rick Allen Posted February 22, 2023 Report Posted February 22, 2023 Rebuilding my '64 R2, and am looking for a replacement camshaft, not looking for a radical grind, just something close to stock, I hear of the R2+ cam mentioned often, is that a good choice and where to get one,,,
64studeavanti Posted February 23, 2023 Report Posted February 23, 2023 R2+ is similar to the Isky ST5. A little more lift, overlap and duration compared to stock. If you have an automatic transmission, it may be a little doggy at the start. I am using ST5 in my 64 R1. I have 4spd and 3.54 axle ratio. I have .060 overbore, zero decked block and about .040 squish with flat top pistons. It starts off a little slow, but really takes off around 2500 rpm. The R2+ grind is available from most vendors supplying camshafts. I have also heard that Isky can still grind the ST5. You do need to provide your existing cam as a core since new cores are no longer available.
