mfg Posted August 15, 2015 Report Posted August 15, 2015 What item that was planned for use on the Studebaker Avanti R4 engine was later cancelled before it entered production?
mfg Posted August 16, 2015 Author Report Posted August 16, 2015 Nope, A/C was an available option with the R4 engine.
Gunslinger Posted August 16, 2015 Report Posted August 16, 2015 I know a/c was an option but since none were factory built it's difficult to say what could have been dropped from plans. The only other possible items that come to mind would be the optional camshaft as the R4 was already difficult to be streetable or the transignitor ignition.
mfg Posted August 16, 2015 Author Report Posted August 16, 2015 The one 'factory' R4, the CAR LIFE MAGAZINE Daytona, wasn't ordered with air.....but it could have been. There is no published info, as far as I know, that Studebaker decided NOT to offer air if a customer ordered the R4 engine option. The optional '288' cam and the transignitor ignition were available till the end. Any other guesses/thoughts on this question?
mfg Posted August 18, 2015 Author Report Posted August 18, 2015 ANSWER...The item(s) originally planned for production, but later scrubbed, were the twin air filters. These filters were even assigned Stude part numbers! (1563055/56) What was eventually used was a GM air filter assy, like the one which was shipped from Paxton on the SNM R4 display engine..
