Guest dapy Posted January 17, 2015 Report Posted January 17, 2015 Sherwood Egbert, considered father of the Avanti died of heart failure.
mfg Posted January 17, 2015 Report Posted January 17, 2015 If his Studebaker experiences didn't give him a heart attack, then he certainly wouldn't have had one later on!
Guest dapy Posted January 22, 2015 Report Posted January 22, 2015 Gunny got it. From what I have read Mr. Egbert was blamed for the slow delivery and lack of demand for the Avanti. As Studebaker was failing he either resigned for health reasons, or was canned. In any case I view him as a visionary who inherited a dying business and tried to revive it. Market/manufacturing factors (Detroit cars) and internal politics led to the demise. The products were OK, but the dealers lost confidence in the company. Over half of South Bend employment was Studebaker related.
