mfg
After Studebaker shut down South Bend vehicle production, the remaining stock of completed R3 (and R4) engines were stocked for retail sale at the Studebaker Parts Dept. (SASCO).....True?
Gunslinger
I would say that's false. I know that Paxton continued to sell R3 and R4 engines until the last of them were sold by 1969 or thereabout.

FALSE is the correct answer....R3 (and R4) 'crate' engines were not stocked in South Bend......They were shipped directly from Paxton Products in California. mfg
CORRECTION!....Some R3 (and possibly but not likely) R4 engines already shipped to South Bend, some of them assigned factory serial numbers for planned production line installations, WERE indeed sold from South Bend after Studebaker's automotive shut down.
