mfg Posted December 21, 2014 Report Posted December 21, 2014 In 1963, if one were to order a replacement (service) short block for an Avanti R1, when assembled that engine could be operated with or without an oil filter.....True?
brad Posted December 21, 2014 Report Posted December 21, 2014 well, early 63 non R series short blocks had plugs screwed into the machined base where the oil filter adapter would mount. I would think the R series short blocks would have the R series pistons, therefore be different than the standard replacement short block. I would say false in the case of R engines.

The few replacement short blocks I've dealt with all had the factory block off plate,...but, your point about 'special for Avanti' may be valid,...so ..Answer to question..........?
