mfg Posted August 18, 2014 Report Posted August 18, 2014 The first Studebaker Avanti prototype built...the FIRST Avanti hand assembled...(non-production EX car) was painted 'Avanti White'....True?
Gunslinger Posted August 19, 2014 Report Posted August 19, 2014 True...it was referred to as the "Icebox" by engineers.
mfg Posted August 19, 2014 Author Report Posted August 19, 2014 Actually no, the first Avanti prototype wasn't 'Avanti White'. Answer to question FALSE
warren55 Posted August 21, 2014 Report Posted August 21, 2014 At some point you have to give us the correct answer!
mfg Posted August 21, 2014 Author Report Posted August 21, 2014 At some point you have to give us the correct answer! How about this hint first.....It was a standard '63 Avanti factory color!
warren55 Posted August 21, 2014 Report Posted August 21, 2014 Turquoise? Just grasping at straws now.
mfg Posted August 22, 2014 Author Report Posted August 22, 2014 No, not 'Avanti Turquoise'. Actually, the #1 car was painted 'AVANTI BLACK'!....which does make sense, because as we know black would show up any defects in a new design better than any other color.
Richard Posted September 10, 2014 Report Posted September 10, 2014 Since I believe the first few Avantis were "hand built", are you referring to Serial Number 1001? If so, that car, as we know, is with LeMay Musuem and was "sold" in white. If you are referring to an Engineering prototype, do you have evidence of what Serial Number it was eventually assigned, if at all? That could be considered an historic car!

Definitely the first PROTOTYPE....believed made of fiberglass mat laid up by hand. Don't have the EX # here, but can probably obtain it. (No, we're not speaking or 63R-1001)
