My '64 has the OEM AM radio and like many folks I've been torn between some decent audio choices and keeping the radio stock. Though a compromise, I came up with a solution I can easily live with. I took a $100 sound bar intended for use with televisions and gutted everything but the pairs of speakers and base port tubes. There was plenty of room for an Infinity INF-PRV250 AM/FM/USB/Bluetooth radio and a suface-mount foil antenna. I use them in motorcycle fairings and in this case the radio is perfect because it can use an optional RF remote control which means it will work anywhere, even when not pointed at the radio like an optical infrared remote. I added a docking station for an XM unit, powered by a 3A 12VDC>5VDC converter designed for USB power socket use and the largest "home" XM antenna for maximum signal pickup inside the car. Gotta love fiberglass bodies for allowing satellite radio to pass right through 'em. I just place it on the back seat and plug it into the cigarette lighter socket and I have AM/FM, XM, or can listen to a USB thumb drive I put a bunch of CDs onto.

Well done!....It's nice to have all the modern radio choices, CD's, (and great sound) without altering your Avanti from 'stock'

Thanks. For folks who wanted to leave the backseat usable or go more traditional you could replace the front & back speakers with the best ones that fit and mount the Infinity (or other radio that can use an RF remote)in a small box big enough to hold it and a few QD connectors and put it in the trunk with speaker leads running hidden to the speakers and the OEM ones not connected. You'd need a set of 12v power leads to the trunk to power it but after that you'd never see anything or even need to open the trunk to turn the radio on/off. Leave a USB stick with bazillion CDs recorded on it and you'll run out of gas before you run out of tunes. You can see by the size of the quarter I set on the radio, how little depth it needs, could be put in the glovebox but who needs the clutter?

Infinity is a good brand. nice find. I use the Rockford Fosgate RFX-5000. It too is a marine remote mount receiver. But, the bluetooth is optional.

No need for the built in display on the infinity, if you are mounting it out of sight.

Unless they just share the plastic case, that RFosgate is a JBL unit inside, one of the "MBB" (Marine Black Box)line. I do like the built-in display on the infinity because it's useful to set the bass/treble/fade/balance when you're not going to use a corded remote display. They do have a corded display that's 20ft or so but for the motorcycle fairings I build the front panel is sufficient and for the Avanti all I need is the on/off and volume functions of the remote along with using it to scroll from radio to BT to USB to Aux in (I just use the 3.5mm input for the XM radio unit)At one time I'd thought of using a corded remote display to use up front in the car but found the little remote was sufficient. Does the RFosgate one have a RF-type remote available?

I think they are all wired. the remotes are very nice however, and having 5 channel output is good as well as sirius radio. Also usb inputs and Ipod too. all included with remote input jacks.

Nice. Do they seem to be the same as these ones? http://www.prospecelectronics.com/index.php?cPath=21_27 I like the Sirius compatibility if you mean it's built-in by adding the antenna or a SXV200 box w/antenna and tuned via the remote. With my Infinity unit you have to use a completely stand-alone XM/Sirius and change satellite channels with the XM/Sirius buttons /remote.

post-10928-0-60472600-1408547930_thumb.jpgNice. I could only find detailed product pages for the RFX 4000SX & 6000SX but that was enough to read up on. Very nice full-featured units and perfect to keep in the trunk with an umbilical to the remote display. Big plus to me is the ability to use the integrated SXV200 Sirius/XM converter for full time use. In my case, I'me fine grabbing the portable XM "Onyx" unit from it's dock in my truck and plugging it into that soundbar setup in the Avanti since the car is off the road all Winter/early Spring because of road salt, and much of the rest of the year. If you ever want one of those Infinity units I can get you one for $165+actual shipping. For my use in motorcycle fairings it's more critical to not have the big box since interior room is limited and that space can be used for a good amp. Edited by GlennW
