mfg Posted July 29, 2014 Report Posted July 29, 2014 Blake Avantis were manufactured from '82 thru '85.....True?
Gunslinger Posted July 29, 2014 Report Posted July 29, 2014 True. He was CEO partway into 1986 but no 1986 Avantis were assembled.
mfg Posted July 29, 2014 Author Report Posted July 29, 2014 Beg to differ......The Blake Avantis began with the 1983 models...At that time the 5mph front bumper guard was eliminated, and the "ll" was dropped from the car's name. Answer..FALSE
Gunslinger Posted July 29, 2014 Report Posted July 29, 2014 I guess it depends when the '83 models began...Blake purchased Avanti Motors in '82. They didn't always follow the industry habit of designating the new model year cars around September of the previous year.
Guest dapy Posted July 30, 2014 Report Posted July 30, 2014 I had a Blake car with the original paint that was shabby. Is it true he used bad paint?
Gunslinger Posted July 30, 2014 Report Posted July 30, 2014 Blake used good paint. His mistake was using the new paint without first testing it on cars made with a new molding process and composition. The new body material took far longer to cure and once painted, the bodies had not the time to properly cure and as the molding chemicals tried to evaporate they caused the paint to lift off since it couldn't adhere to the surface. If only proper testing had been done on a couple of cars first he could have avoided the whole mess and bankruptcy...maybe.
