63 Avanti R2
Can you mix Castrol 10W-30 Syn/blend with Rotella 10W-30 in my 289 R1 Stude engine?
Gunslinger
Short answer...yes. People mix oils all the time...intentionally or otherwise...with no ill effects. While one can argue you should use the same base oil and grade all the time, the fact is the oil you buy today isn't the same as the oil you bought a year ago...refiners are always modifying and changing their blends due to EPA regulations, car manufacturer requirements, etc. In the end, your engine probably doesn't care as long as it has regular oil changes and the oil is the proper grade for it's expected driving conditions. 63 Avanti R2
Thanks gunslinger I've been using Rotella 10W-30, but it uses oil, not much, but that oil is a little more expensive than others. Sorry to hear of your miss fortunes on your trip. I sold a 63R2 to a guy in Kingsville MD. That's not far from you, is it? StudeNorm
I have been mixing and matching oils in my cars for over 40 years. I have never had an engine fail or even show signs of excess oil consumption. My Nissan Sentra used no oil between changes and had over 300K miles on it when the car started failing around the engine. My 300TE Mercedes Benz actually started using LESS oil once I started blending its' oil. I also advise people to use the BEST filter they can find. I personally use Quaker State, WIX or even John Deere if I can get. So my short answer also is "Yes, you can mix oils"...
