mfg Posted June 12, 2014 Report Posted June 12, 2014 Trivia....Can anyone name five chassis/body differences between a 1964 R2 Avanti and a 1964 R3 Avanti? (Not engine related differences)
grobb284 Posted June 12, 2014 Report Posted June 12, 2014 1. lower motor mounts 2. longer slots in the body for the front bumper brackets (body is raised) 3. more body shims to raise body (body is raised) 4. solid front suspension bushings 5. flanged axles in the rear end

Gunslinger Posted June 12, 2014 Report Posted June 12, 2014 The hood brace was eliminated as it interfered with the air box. The right inner fender was cut for the air hose to be routed to the radiator scoop area where the filter was relocated. There were also different front coil and rear leaf springs as well as different upper control arms.

(the right skirt cutout was one of my missing two by the way)
Gunslinger Posted June 12, 2014 Report Posted June 12, 2014 Not sure if this qualifies as a body difference but part of the R3 package was an eight grand tach.

64Avanti Posted September 3, 2014 Report Posted September 3, 2014 You missed a few. The lower knuckle that connects the king pin to the lower arm is different. The king pin and spindle are also different.
