Paul K.
Should the valves be adjusted hot or cold on a Studebaker engine? I just installed the motor after resealing it and the engine is quiet for a solid lifter engine. I had the rockers off for cleaning and adjusted the valves but am wondering if they should be re-adjusted one more time with the engine warm? Devildog
The manual says adjust initially cold and then again after engine at op temp. I have found on my SBC solid lifters there is no difference in clearance of cold vs. warm if the heads are cast iron (same coeffecient of metals). If aluminum heads there maybe a small difference. What I do is set them warm and then check the cold clearance and record that. then do my periodic checks cold according to my recorded cold clearance (based on hot clearance). Lot easier checking and setting cold Joe
