On Studebaker Avanti 63R1007 (Bonneville #9) the fiberglass reinforcing cross brace (on the underside of the hood) was removed by the Granatellis to clear the R3 engine assembly.......True?

This sounds familiar, so I will say that this is True.  Later R3s were lowered with thinner engine mounts.

Bodies were lifted  in the front for clearance on all factory R3 Avantis built for production.

Not sure about the mules or bonneville cars.
