  1. There is a part the mounts to the door hinge that holds the spring that keeps the door opened?

I have the hinge part thats part of the hinge body. I'm looking for the items that move with the spring

when you open a door. Part books show it as included in the hinge assembly. Are left and right hinges

swapable? I've had 10 Avanti's and only a few have had true left door hinges/ w spring.

    Thanks

    LUMA

  2. Does anyone know if the original Stude Avanti Steering wheel steel ring is welded to the two center bar spokes? I recently purchased a nice woodgrain 64 style and it seems a bit loose. I noticed some play and see a few cracks near the bar on both sides. Is it just the molded plastic holding the rim to the center part? Anyone ever get a wheel restored to NOS condition? Thanks for you help, Luma

  3. Joe,

Thanks but I have that part. It looks like the anchor the return spring mounts to under the dash. Did you get a chance to look at the parts from my posting above? I saw a great picture in John Hull's new Avanti book of an early II frame with a 4 speed, and its the drivers side view. If only I could blow it up! Thanks again for your time. Luma

  4. Joe!

Also click enlargen box on lower right.

If you can take a picture of the steering box area near the frame, there may be a bracket there and also from the same area, the gas pedal linkage that your car has now . It should run up the block

near the oil filter area and over the transmission to block area.

    THANKS AGAIN, Luma

  5. Anyone with a manual transmission in their Avanti II that has the mechanical linkage still in place. I need some pictures of the the layout. I think I have all the parts but have a few questions. Do I use the bellcrank mount on the engine or the bellhousing? Is there special gas pedal linkage assembly as it looks like the bellcrank (Z bar) will jam up the gas pedal linkage. I thought I had everything in order but cannot finish up just yet. Any help greatly appreciated.

  6. Dick,

I was just looking thru all my old Avanti literature and saw your articles on the R5 back in the early 70's issue. Glad to hear you still have the car. I don't think I have anything that you don't already have but I am interested in pictures you said you have. Was the R5 as raced red? I seem to recall that Greg Cone of Virginia had put together a number of the engine parts. Do you have the video of the late 63 Bonneville runs that the R5 first raced at? I thing there was an 8 MM film of that event, with the other Studes also. It may have nbeen called 'Chasing the Wind" Good luck with your project and post some pictures if you get a chance.

  7. I have been collecting parts to convert an early Avanti II (RQA with 327) to a 4 speed and need some help in a few areas. I'm not sure how the transmission mounts to the rear cross member and I need a bracket that mounts with the steering box bolts that supports the clutch Z bar at the frame side. I would like to hear from anyone with a manual shift Avanti and would also be interested in 5 and 6 speed conversions. Thanks for your time.
