i concur with Desert Driver. The knurled screw is easily accessed once you pull the gauge out.
I have never removed the seat but I am sure it would be easier on my back if I did
-
many of these colors cannot be mixed using the original formulas due to EPA restrictions.
I usually do what MFG suggested and get a color scan done at a paint store as a result
-
you can ground it almost anywhere. like the mounting brackets for the gauges
-
the most difficult part is putting it back in so that it is not cocked one way or the other. But then that is not hard. Just a little trial and error

Finally got all the Led lights in the dash. A bulb did fall in the speedometer gauge and may take it out but leaving it in for now. The second bulb I put in it works. It shouldn't cause a problem should it?
Lights not real bright but at least they are red. About as bright as the 1969 Avanti I had when I was much younger.
Anyway I am happy they are red and I do appreciate all your help.
Thanks

It will probably just sit in the bottom of the gauge.
I would love to find some that are brighter. I have tried several different brands of red LEDs and none are bright enough for me.
Maybe i need cataract surgery🤣

and you will probably have to remove that gauge to get the bulb out of it. That is what i have done in the past.
-
More of a pain to do it that way really. Get one big gauge out like the tach or speedo and you should be able to get it done.
-
You might put this in the for sale/wanted section if you haven't done so already. Good luck
-
What ronmanfredi said. I do remove one of the larger gauges to gain access sometimes but it can be done either way.
Can be done with a the seats in if your back is good.
-
good luck with that!

At the time, Leatherique was advertised as a way to repair actual cracks in the leather itself....I found this not to be true. (as far as the seats go)
They have a crack repair but i have no faith in it. I have played with it and not pleased

Your work looks excellent....however, something I learned using the similar 'leatherique' product years ago when trying to improve a tired '55 Speedster leather interior is this...
If it doesn't move (a door panel for example) the repair will hold up admirably....but if the leather DOES move (sitting on seats for example) the cracking will reappear rather quickly.
Agreed and that is why i take the cracks down to the leather. Usually the cracks are in the old dye many times, not the leather in my experience
-
Sounds like you are doing it correctly. Looks good.
I use a company called Leatherique and have achieved similar results.
Cleaning and softening before dyeing is the key in my opinion

Nostalgic Motors used to install a second set on the sides for that purpose. THey were the same as the front ones just mounted on the sides

THanks guys. I have owned a couple of C3s and never thought about that being a C3 handle.
On a side note, Alfa Romeo used the C4 center brake light on their spiders in the early ninetys.
You never know where you will find Corvette parts!🤣

1) What year did they move he parking brake to the center of the console?
2) What year did they change from a cable trunk release to the electric one in the glove box?
Thanks

No. I was trying to make the case that the resistors/senders on the Studebaker Avanti are different than the Avanti II, even though the gauge looks the same. It amazed me. I apologize if I presented the matter unclearly.
You did not present it unclearly but if the same gauge was being used with sensors of a different resistances, then they would have erroneous readings
-
Lots of PB blaster and wait a couple of days. That is how I got mine off.
-
So are you saying that the Stewart Warner gauges that are used in the original and the Avanti IIs is expecting a different resistance than it was designed for?
Forgive me for being confused om this. Do we all need to recalibrate our gauges in the Avanti IIs?
THanks

I did replace the temp sender in the engine. That gives the right values, see table below. But, with the gauge on the table, wired up with a variable resistor, the needle does not go to the right value Fahrenheit. So, my conclusion is that the gauge is wrong. I disassembled it but do not know how to adjust it.
So what do these three columns represent? Are these different versions of the gauge for different year cars?

Do you mean that the lights on them flickered or the gauges acted erratic?
-
I got lucky as someone had one and sent it to me. My radio is a RetroSound unit with USB, bluetooth and preamp outputs to a subwoofer amp. Works great and no cutting involved.
