  1. I'm changing my exhaust manifolds on my 83 avanti. Was a real b!$%@ to get the last bolt, closest to the cab, off. Now that I'm thinking about it...im wondering how in the heck am I gonna get the new bolt in and if I do how I can get my torque wrench in. Something that I'm assuming goes to the power steering or steering period is blocking it. It's directly under the brake booster. Does anyone know what this is called exactly?

  2. Changing exhaust manifold gaskets and deleting smog pump in my 83 305 Avanti ii. Took a.c. out cause It wasn't working very well and that's the only way I found to reach the manifold. Has anyone done a a.c. delete pulley? If so, which one did you use. I found 2, one being 2 bolts brackets other is 3 bolts. Thx.

  3. Anyone know the location of the egr on a 83 Avanti II? I am certain I've located it but it seems to have a few hoses that I've never seen on an egr. Thx

  4. So pulled my exhaust manifold and notice what looks like one of my valves is possibly burnt. It's black and the wall around it is black. The other 3 just have normal carbon deposits. Is this possible case of burnt valves?

  5. Well my diverter valve blew a valve. I bought a new one, only one that apparently existed online when I found it online. Installed new one today and it wss running fine until. It blew another valve in the same spot. Plain and simple, I got 1/4 inch pipe plugs and cut the exhaust manifold, plugged in the new plugs, took me about 4 hours to do all 8. Was a pain in my ads honestly. Then I connected smog pump to the valve that goes straight to the catalytic converter. Starts up and sounds so much better. Haven't test drove yet so idk about power loss or anything yet. This was my first time doing anything emissions related. Fingers crossed and hopefully everything will be good till I get headers. Does anyone know if it's okay that I connected the smog pump to the valve that goes straight down to cat?

  6. So a few months ago I changed my rear shocks to kybs that someone posted on the forums. The bolt and the bolt hole for the top of the shock are smaller than the hole on the shock. Has anyone else ran into this issue? Can I just use a bore bit to get the hole diameter I need?

  7. So I thought my exhaust manifold gasket was leaking but turns out on the passenger side, tight above the exhaust manifold there is a some sort of plastic piece that has 3 hoses going straight the passenger side into the dash, one goes under the carburetor and onto a valve, and the other I don't know where. The plastic piece has a huge hole in it, but I don't know what this part is called or seem to find something similar online. When i get home ill take some pictures. Anyone have any idea what I'm talking about ?

Hope you have a shop manual handy.    There are shims included in the kingpin rebuild kit. You also have the ones installed in your suspension now.   The shims are used to adjust the  thrust bearing clearance, which if is not correct will grind the bearings into dust.

Where can I acquire a shop manual?? Thank you for the help

  9. In middle of replacing coil springs on my 83. Need to get new king pin bearings for the inside of the spindle that the ball joint and tierod connect to. Can't seem to findn were to get them does anybody know where I can find them. Thanks

  10. In process of changing coil springs. Got one out. I took off the bar that connects the two control arms together. I found that the only way I could get the control arm low enough to put in the new spring. Now I can get it back in. The brackets that hold it in clip into the control arm. Any suggestions. Sorry for not being very more informative about it. (At work right now)

  11. Sadly the only shop i have around me is only mechanical. They won't touch anything with wires. And the one I do have is called Iron Horse Classics and they are always booked up up to like 2 months in advance..
