  2. ISO Interior Door Panels

    Greetings. I am currently restoring an early 1963 R-2. The interior is the Regal pattern and the color is red. I am looking for interior door panels (both driver and passenger sides) that have power windows.
     
    If any of you have some extra interior door panels that meet the above description and are willing to sell, please reply to me directly via IM. Thanks in advance!

  4. 1963 Avanti with power windows question (wiring)

    I have a wiring question for all of you with Studebaker Avanti's WITH power windows. See attached pics. Where does the yellow wire (port "A") attach to? Does it attach to the Ignition port of the Voltage Regulator? I acquired an early 1963 Avanti that had a an alarm system put in in the '70's (that I took out). That said, I want to double check with my Avanti brethen who have power windows on the correct wiring layout (the Studebaker parts and shop manuals really don't detail the wiring layout between the Voltage Regulator, Power Windows relay, Power Windows circuit breaker, switch, etc., for me to make a 100 % determination. I also included a sketch of my existing wiring on the Avanti for reference. Thanks in advance!

  5. easy way to change instrument lights in 1964 R1?

    I did this on both my '63 and '71 Avanti II.

    The best way is to first remove the front driver seat. There are only 4 bolts that connect it. Then you can lie on your back (with your head next to the pedals) and have full access to the underside of the dash. I would recommend throwing a few pillows / towels on both sides of the ridge on the floor that connects the front part of the seat. The pillows will distribute your weight around the ridge. (Your back will thank you!)

    It is best to disconnect the battery before doing work under the dash. When you replace a bulb, you can reconnect to test it and check. 

    It will take about an evening to do if you do it leisurely. I found that the Avanti II was more of a challenge to replace the bulbs since there were a lot more wires and obstructions under the dash. The Studies had less clutter and were more accessible.

  8. Rear view mirrors keep falling off and breaking....Advice needed

    I need some advice regarding rear view mirrors mounted on the inside windshield. I have lost two rear view mirrors in the last 2 years. I mounted these mirrors using either Permatex or 3M mirror adhesives. I followed the instructions to the letter. The result: mirrors that will stay mounted for a short time only to fall off, hit the console and then cracked the mirror. I now have 2 cracked mirrors that I need to get repaired.
     
    That have you done to mount your mirrors permanently on your glass? What adhesive did you use? Have you run into problems like I have encountered? Thank you in advance for any advice you can provide.

  10. Voltage Regulator question

    Greetings:

    If any of you still have original voltage regulator from your early Avanti II, please look at yours for me. I replaced the voltage regulator on my 1971 Avanti II. The old one was black and had no embossed lettering on its top. I would think that the original regulators would be Delco Remy and be marked as such.

    Are your original VR's Delco and were the embossed that way? Or was it a different manufacturer? Any info would be great to know. Thanks in advance!

  15. Interior Rear View Mirror Questions

    I have a small mirror on my '63 Avanti. It is dark tinted for the benefit of night driving. Were all mirrors like this?

    Also, other than tightening the screws on the mirror stem, are there additional ways to tighten the ball joints on the mirror stem to keep the mirror in vibrating loose?

  17. Vertical Placement of the Rear View Mirror

    I am re-positioning my rear view mirror to the top center portion my my windshield. My Dad originally placed the mirror at center bottom to make it look similar to the 63-64 Studebakers. But.....you really can not see will at all when the mirror is that low.

    I recall seeing a technical or service memo relating to the factory placement of the rear view mirror for top center. How far down from the top of the windshield should the center of the mirror base be cemented?

  19. Air Cleaner for 1971 Avanti II

    If any of you have a 1970-72 Avanti II, take a look at the attached photo. Does your air cleaner look like this? This is what is on my 1971 Avanti II. It is a dual-snorkel are cleaner with a chrome top.

    Is your air cleaner black with a chrome top? Is (was) there a decal on the chrome top? What did it read?

    I have read that the pictured air filter was used on Corvettes in 1970. My goal is to match how the car was originally delivered in 1971.

  24. Hot engine will not start....

    Mike and Jim,

    I place the jumper cables on the battery posts.

    This is an Autozone Duralast starter. I will be taking my car over to AZ to check if the starter solenoid is bad. The starter is now 3 years old so the prolonged exposure to heat may have damaged the solenoid. If so, I will replace the starter.

    While I am at it, I plan on wrapping the exhaust header with heat shield tape and get the shield for the starter. Any recommendations on the best heat shield tape to use?
