murph the surf Posted December 11, 2017 Report Posted December 11, 2017 (edited) Tom McCahill,in a road test of the new Studebaker Avanti, described the Avanti's steering as being extremely quick. And, in words that could only come from Tom McCahill,he stated that the Avanti "takes the corners like a ___ ______ _ _____ ____". scottgriggs Posted December 11, 2017 Report Posted December 11, 2017 "fly rimming a sugar bowl" Probably a very nose-heavy fly. ha ha
PackardV8 Posted December 11, 2017 Report Posted December 11, 2017 In the context of other late-'50s-early'60s cars Uncle Tom had driven recently, the Avanti probably felt quick. For example, the '59 Pontiac was chosen by Motor Trend as their Car of the Year. That was a grotesquely-styled POS and handled abysmally. They didn't publish this photo where they rolled a tire off the rim in a hard corner. jack vines

mfg Posted December 11, 2017 Report Posted December 11, 2017 I didn't know the answer to this question, but was going to say that Tom's quote probably ended with........ 'Scalded Cat'!!!!!
