On my 1983 it has a small white plastic coolant overflow tank - there is on black hose connected to the radiator hose running from the tank with a plastic cap on it.  The other end of the tank has no hose just an opening for the hose.

Should there be a hose on that and does it function as an external drain to the ground Outside the car or should it be connected to something.

Fyi There is an LT1 engine in this car if that makes a difference.

Appreciate any help.or advise

Thank you

Yep… you’ve got it right… the open end on overflow tank is just an outlet to ground if the tank itself should fill to capacity… which should never happen if you pay attention to the coolant ‘fill’ indicator line on the plastic tank.

Thank you very much for your prompt response and help -I will probably put a tube running downward so it doesn’t spit up -currently having a problem with car overheating due to to fan relay not working right
