With the roads “Soooo Tore Up" after Hurricane Helene and being either muddy or dusty after the Storm, these cars are going into storage for the winter.

My '63' Avanti is already in the Barn being worked on, so it's already ''off the road''.

There is NO WAY I’ll get these vehicles messy. Clean up takes forever under the hood and throughout.

Just not worth it.

There is a stretch going North on my road that is a ~2 miles run that was not touched by the Storm.

So I can take em out for a ''warm up run'', but that’s it.

So… The fun ends for this year.

These Cars are being Mothballed for the winter in hopes that next Spring the roads will be re-paved.

’02’ Avanti  and ’82', 928 Porsche.

Even here where I live in Arizona we get snow, so the Convertible is locked inside a nice warm garage till next spring.  Hope your area is able to recover from that terrible storm.

Generally I'll mothball due to the snow and salt used to melt it. That generally runs thru Jan to Mar. But this scenario has turned my road into a graveled mess with mud and heavy dust. Ya get behind a Gravel Truck at 100 ft and the dust cloud totally wipes vision and You can't see the Truck due to a dust cloud.

We're slowly recovering, no thanks to the Feds and FEMA. They are nearly Non-Existent. The repairs are being done by the State, County and Local Residents. The Religious Orgs are here but they are overwhelmed... thus not too helpful.. (good intentions but only so much can be done)

The Blacktop Plants basically slow or shut down in the Winter Months. This year they likely will remain open, but i don't expect a blacktopped road until around Jul-Aug.

I just won't drive these cars on a graveled ,muddy, dusty road, so my Driving time is done for now. My H2 Hummer and that Porsche  was Up 'For Sale" but they're such a muddy mess, nobody will even take the purchase seriously until they're cleaned up. That right now would be a futile attempt.

But we're good here at My House.

aardvark, I'm glad to hear you are well.  I've also about given up on getting my brakes working this year.  I might be able to sneak a day or two in to work on them, but our rainy season has set in, the days are getting shorter, and with the infernal time change on November 3, it will be dark by the time I get off work.  What few dry weekend days we now have between now and February will be prioritized on yard work, exterior maintenance of the house as needed, and maintaining our daily drivers.  My Avanti is now stuck in the driveway under a cover. :(  I'm looking forward to retiring and moving out of Washington state in favor of someplace drier and less expensive to live.

Yeah, I gave up on the Brakes for now as well.  I sprung a Power Steering leak from somewhere. It's pouring on the exhaust and smoking like crazy. I finally just got fed up and I'll plug away at the items over the winter on some warmer days. So both Avanti's are in the Barn awaiting repairs on one and detailing on the other. (a '63' and '02')

I also have multiple things needing done this Fall, early Winter.

We spent 3 days (off and on) just setting up StarLink, since Internet has been spotty now for 5 weeks after the Storm.  I'm on it now.

Next I have a Cub Cadet ... Side By Side UTV that needs gone thru..

Finally that Porsche died. Plugs fouled due to running too rich..

Been hell over here, but things are coming together in the Neighborhood and Counties. We weathered everything very good being up on a hill. ..Praise GOD for that!

A Helene Hurricane Update.

I thought it prudent to give You all an update.

So, it's been 2 months and now it's Winter. We still have families living in tents and sheds. The Gov't is as useless as ''tits on a boar hog''. Despite their actions  (or lack thereof) things are getting slowly better. It is hoped that the New Administration will release sufficient funds to help families and businesses get back up and running.  But it has been more than 2 months... actually 3 since all Hell broke lose. I-40 which is our most traveled freeway and goes from Asheville to Knoxville was wiped out.  About a week ago another lane of that freeway collapsed.  There is no good way to go West out of our area''''2 Steps Forward.. 1 Step back.''''

For my area...The roads have been mostly repaired. Blacktop was installed but they still have a LOT of patchwork to be done.  A LOT of Bridges are still out.  So our roads are totally drivable now. I can't complain about that since I really didn't expect good roads until late Spring. The Waterways are a total disaster.  Uprooted trees and the rivers actually changed directions. Many homes destroyed and they are bulldozing em all down.

So I'll keep my cars Mothballed for the Winter Season.

Mothballing is still in place for my cars..... A Helene Hurricane Update!!

They were out there Blacktopping again and the roads are pretty good. The weather is beginning to cooperate. Temps are in the 50s and 60's over the next few weeks.

So the New Administration is in place with promises of aid. I expect good from Him, but suspect He'll circumvent FEMA...(YES!!) All repairs, Housing and aid is basically from the Locals and some "out of State" sources. Religious Orgs are on it but overwhelmed. Franklin Graham was born and raised right here and even His Org is outside of Asheville. So this is personal to Him.

So enough of the Politics.. This place is still a mess and will likely be a few years before the place shows good recovery.

And back on the Car Topic... I soon will be on "The Road"! .... Car Shows are still in the planning and I'll be ready to attend.
