Guest dapy Posted January 25, 2015 Report Posted January 25, 2015 In December 1963 the STUDEBAKER CORPORATION SPOTLIGHT, the corporate, employee and PR newsletter, wished everyone a Merry Christmas, headlining that Studebaker had a new President and there was no indication that South Bend production would end that month. Who was the new President? When and how did the Corporation announce the end. Trivia here, but death for the Studebaker community and South Bend.
unclemiltie Posted January 25, 2015 Report Posted January 25, 2015 In November 63 Sherwood Egbert stepped down as president due to cancer and was replaced by Byers Burlingame, a name we seldom see discussed as president of Studebaker.
Guest dapy Posted January 25, 2015 Report Posted January 25, 2015 Correct. He apparently presided over the closing of production. Do you know when and how Studebaker announced their closing?
mfg Posted January 25, 2015 Report Posted January 25, 2015 Correct. He apparently presided over the closing of production. Do you know when and how Studebaker announced their closing? Did they remember to lock the doors?
Guest dapy Posted January 25, 2015 Report Posted January 25, 2015 mfg, Well, it was no joke in South Bend where 60% of adults depended on Studebaker for their lively hood. I imagine they did not lock the doors. My guess is the company did what they could afford to soften the effect on employees.
8E45E Posted January 26, 2015 Report Posted January 26, 2015 Once again, I'm asking you to stop this childish behavior, and respond to members questions in an adult manner, or not respond at all!....mfg Thank you! Now back to the question. A carefully worded telegram was ready to be sent to all the newswires, but the South Bend Tribune broke the news ahead of the game. Craig
