85 Headlight Problem

I am having problems w/ the headlights turning on in the 85. Sometimes they turn on as should, others just the park lights would only come on. The rocker switch has a normal feel and sound, and hate to repeatedly keep turning on/off in an effort to activate, Two weeks ago I took apart the junction relay under the hood near the reservoir and cleaned. No change. The dimmer functions normal when the lights are on. Any ideas where to look for this short or problem?

Got stopped last night trying to make it home 5 miles following my wife. Luckily they came on as I was explain to the cop. He still followed me as a safety precaution.

Forgot to mention the park lights seem to work okay and that they always come on in either switch position.

You might try switching two of the rocker switches and see if the problem is unchanged. If it is, your problem is likely in the headlight relay. If it works properly, the problem is the rocker switch.

Here's one for you: where's the headlight relay? I had the switch out and jumpered across to no avail.

You never know with Avanti Motors and how they might have done things, but you'll probably find it on the drivers side bulkhead, above or near the steering column.
