Avanti kid Posted March 31, 2014 Report Posted March 31, 2014 (edited) Last Saturday we shoot a video of driving Avanti out of garage and turning it around and back into garage. Now I can drain engine oil and install new oil and filter, Engine was just over-hauled and has a few driveway runs on engine. If you want to see video go to U-Tube and do a "Search" for "Avanti Kid engine run 3/29/14" I plan on showing car this May 25th at the La Palma Park car show in Orange County and other local car shows. Enjoy the sound of the 800 hp turbo Studebaker engine. Top speed for car so far at Bonneville is 216 mph at the 4 mile point of the 5 mile salt course, This was done with the rev. limiter set at a low RPM of only 6300 rpm, in the past the engine as been to 7200 rpm with 20 lbs boost. Car is race ready for SCTA rules for 2014, which included removing all tempered glass windows and installing the required Lexan windows for any cars that the record is over 200 mph. If you every dreamed of racing at Bonneville at over 200 mph, this car is still for sale for $45K, if someone buys car, my race team will go to Bonneville with you and help you tune car and do the rookie runs and help with the rules at Bonneville, take care, Dave avanitkid @earthlink.net Edited April 2, 2014 by lschuc To embed the video-- Editor
rhusak Posted March 31, 2014 Report Posted March 31, 2014 Dave.. Really, Really NEAT! Sounds a little meaner than my 63 R2 Ron Husak
mfg Posted March 31, 2014 Report Posted March 31, 2014 What a mean looking and sounding Avanti...So cool!....I love this car!
Avanti kid Posted March 31, 2014 Author Report Posted March 31, 2014 Thanks guys, I have really enjoyed this car for over 51 years and it is fun racing it at Bonneville, my grandson in Ohio hopes I don't sell it and give it to him to race at Bonneville, he is 19 years old.
Avanti kid Posted April 2, 2014 Author Report Posted April 2, 2014 Here is a little more info on moving the car, when I was driving it I can not see behind me, so when Vinny was trying to guide me I could not see him, so I was backing into the driveway and garage blind, but I new that if I got it close to being in the correct position on the driveway I could attach my electric winch in the garage and pull it in correctly with the winch, so that was how we turned the car around, next will drain oil and install new oil and filter, it was a good day and nice weather for the engine run. Also want to that Lew for fixing the video so its easier to see on this web site. Take care, Dave
mfg Posted April 2, 2014 Report Posted April 2, 2014 Can You give us a brief description of that super-hot Stude engine please? (Cubic inch, cam type, supercharger type, approx HP, other engine mods, tranny type)
