CommanderToasty Posted March 8, 2013 Report Posted March 8, 2013 Is there a drop-in five or six speed manual transmision that I can install in place of my stock four speed BW? Better yet, one I can get on the used or scrap market!
Avanti83 Posted March 9, 2013 Report Posted March 9, 2013 A quick No!! on the drop in but it is possible to replace yours with a 5/6 speed. But it will take an adapter, hydraulic clutch setup, a change in driveshaft length and a modified rear cross member for starters. If you want to proceed peruse this from the SDC forum http://forum.studebakerdriversclub.com/showthread.php?8204-Studebaker-Avanti-TKO-5-speed-install-how-to Bob
CommanderToasty Posted March 9, 2013 Author Report Posted March 9, 2013 Thanks. That's what I thought but I decided to check. So that's more work than I want to get into, so how about just spreading out the gears in my BW? The gearing is so narrow right now there is almost no difference between 2nd & 3rd, and of course I am winding up revving 4000 at freeway speeds. Can I chage the meats or cluster in the BW to open things up a bit?
