Third brake light

Am curious if anyone has installed one of these on the package shelf or up top, on the headliner looking out.

Getting rear-ended is my phobia and though there is the upgrade of LED tail lights, I like the added brake light.

If you've added one, I'd appreciate knowing what kind you got and where. Thanks!

Tom,

I bought this unit for my avanti. It is a LED third brake light that flashes for a certain interval (1 to 3 sec adjustable) then is steady when the brakes are applied. It uses suction cups to adhere to rear windshield glass and has an RC type quick disconnect so that it can be removed and stored when not driving it like when showing at a car show or meet.

The side brackets with suction cups can be adjusted for angle of rear glass so that the LED light strip still faces to the rear of the car. I purchased one for use with my avanti after its restoration is complete in the next couple of months.

Looks like a nice unit...it's great that it's removeable. I'm not a huge fan of messing with the Avanti's looks.

I still have nightmares about the cheesey-looking aftermarket units sold in the late 80s for retrofitting to pre-85 cars.

(Remember after awhile they'd melt and droop in the rear window, and eventually the bulbs would burn out?)

I recently purchased a third brake light for my '70 from Ron Francis wiring but it hasn't been installed yet...a springtime job. My only complaint with it is that it will partially block the flow from the rear defogger blower...not too much of an issue as it rarely, if ever gets used.

I do like the idea of a third brake light for safety. Avantis have never been known for bright rear lights.
