Folks - Speedo/Odo quit on the 63 Avanti w/automatic the other day. Before I begin ripping it apart thought I'd seek and wise advice on what is more likely

to have failed first. Thanks Steve

Check the back of the gauge to insure the cable is housed correctly.

Then check the pinnion gear and inner cable . You can do this from underneath.

Latest on the speedometer failure is - replaced the cable and pinion gear - after 1/2 mile speedometer buzzed, pinned at 160 mph and the needle came off. So - I'm now in the market for a replacement unit ( have e mailed Stude Int'l ) or a rebuild shop for the failed unit - any suggestions?
